Taipei MRT Updates Its Yellow Lines

Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (臺北大眾捷運股份有限公司)is going to make the eating restriction marks clearer than they are now in its stations. Currently, you can't eat or drink past the yellow lines in the Taipei MRT. The yellow lines are usually in front of the ticket area. Here, people beep their EasyCard or token. If people are caught eating or drinking past the yellow line, they might have to pay NT$1,500 to NT$7,500.

However, the lines are not in the same place at every station. Some stations allow people to eat or drink at the no-ticket areas, but some do not. The different policies between stations could confuse people, especially tourists. Therefore, the authorities will put the lines in the same place at 32 stations. The work is supposed to6 be finished this month.

A Museum for Heartache

A The Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia, displays objects that represent failed connections. It's a place where people send significant items from past relationships that are too painful to keep. The museum was founded by two Croatian artists after their four-year romantic relationship ended. A sister museum has also opened in Los Angeles, US.

People from all over the world send items to these museums with notes explaining each item's story. The objects are not only symbols of marriage, but also of family, friendship, or business relationships. Some are about people's relationships to former homes or to their younger selves.

One of the items is a divorced woman's wedding dress stuffed in a glass jar. After her husband left her, she didn't want anyone else to wear her dress. Another is a pair of jeans belonging to a man who died in a motorcycle accident. The man's wife now has to learn how to live without him. Sending items to this museum helps people express their feelings and find comfort for their pain.

A Train Station Run By Children

Children everywhere love playing with toy trains. In Russia, a few lucky kids run the show at an actual train station. The Children's Railway is a special summer program for children between the ages of nine and fifteen. The program teaches kids how a real train station works by letting them run the train station.

The first children's railway was opened by the Russian government in 1932. Its goal was to teach discipline and show children how to work together. Additionally, it hoped the program might help them identify future government leaders. It worked, so the government opened another 51 children's railways across the country. Several of these railways are still functioning to this day.

However, many people still don't see the stations' value until they see the railways in action. Children's railways aren't just about carrying on tradition. When students sell tickets, they are using math. Talking to foreign customers lets them practice English. Operating the tracks also teaches them about physics. Many children love the program so much that they continue working on railways as adults.

The Exhausting Condition of Social Jet Lag

Most of us look forward to the weekend because that's when we don't have to be rudely awakened by a blaring alarm clock. We can stay up past our designated bedtimes and catch up on some shut-eye the following morning. Late nights and sleeping in might seem like guilt-free pleasures after a long week, but is there more to them than meets the eye?

Researchers say social jet lag has the potential to give you more than just the Monday blues. Social jet lag is related not only to poorer health, but also to chronic fatigue and irritability. In fact, each hour of social jet lag is associated with an 11% increased risk of heart disease.

As a result, good sleep habits are just as essential for health as diet and exercise. It is recommended that adults sleep at least seven hours per night. A solid night's sleep every night is also important so you won't have a sleep debt to repay over the weekend. Also, try to wake up at roughly the same time every day. If you know you'll stay up late, take a power nap before 2 p.m. so you won't stray too far from your normal routine. In the end, establishing a regular sleep schedule is a relatively simple and effective way to ward off a variety of health problems.

A Perfect Trip to Portugal

If you're looking for the perfect European vacation, Portugal is the ideal place to visit. Located at the southwestern end of Europe, Portugal offers scenic beaches, cosmopolitan city adventures, and beautiful architecture. In addition, the food and wine culture is to die for. It's no surprise that the Portuguese rank as some of the happiest people in the world.

The perfect place to start your trip to Portugal is in its capital city, Lisbon. As you enter the city, you'll spot an ancient castle on top of a hill. This is St. George's castle, one of Lisbon's top tourist attractions. A large part of the castle has crumbled over the years, but some cannons still remain from when it was a military headquarters. Outside in the garden, visitors can soak up the peaceful atmosphere as they observe geese and peacocks wandering the grounds. Another site in Lisbon that offers a window into Portugal's past is the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. This 500-year-old monastery was once filled with monks whose main job was to pray that their king lived a long life. When the monks left in 1833, the building was used as a school for orphans. Recently, it's been selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as it embodies Late Gothic architecture in Portugal.

After a day of sightseeing, you'll be ready for something to eat. You should sample Portugal's favorite snack, pastel de nata, which is better known as a Portuguese egg tart. This dessert was created by monks at the Jerónimos monastery. Back then, monks used egg whites to make detergent for washing clothes. They would then use the leftover egg yolks to bake pastries, which is how this sweet treat came about.
